Two Stages To Weight

According to META-Medicine there are Two Phases Of Disease and this wonderful diagram (courtesy of Suzanne Boyd below illustrates them perfectly.

META-Medicine’s Two Phases of Disease

The Two Phases Of Weight Gain

This is how it works:

  • The process starts with a trauma small, medium or largeand we call that a Significant Stressful Event or what I will start to refer to as a UDIN which is an Unexpected, Dramatic, Isolating event where you had No coping strategy, so it shocked your system **
  • This prompts the STRESS or Sympathetic Phase and is easy to identity because everyone finds themselves reaching for quick-energy producing items, that contain sugar or refined carbohydrates. At the same time the blood pressure increases, obsessive thinking comes into play, sleep and eating patterns become erratic. When you think of it we’ve all experienced this. It’s just one of the ways you can start to put weight on, especially if the Stress Phase can lasts indefinitely (and it can).
  • The next part of the process is where the issue gets resolved, just think of when you’ve had a stressful event at work and then you go off on holiday and there’s such a relief at being away from it.
  • Now the HEALING or Para-Sympathetic Phase begins, which is when any physical symptoms arise, and is often the time when the bodies water (the swelling from oedema) will occur if its going to.
  • This phase splits into 3-parts, with the hot, temperature ridden first part, followed by the Healing Crisis, when symptoms are at their peak, and once this is over the warm recuperative third part of the healing phase kicks in, which is when you want to start a new diet, eat more healthily and take better care of yourself and get some really good sleep.
  • However, if the original trauma isn’t cleared (as with chronic disease) the pattern will re-trigger and start all over again and I imagine most of you can relate.

** This does not mean that every traumatic event turns into disease, just most disease runs through the above process, the only exclusion here would be a genetic condition, a child is born with and even then it can probably be traced back through the family line, but that’s a conversation for the other site on another day.
