Have you ever eaten when you weren’t even hungry, the answer is probably a resoundingyesfor most anyone drawn to this site.

So what is it about emotional eating, why do we do it, how do we lose control?

People who use food for comfort or emotional eating do so as a result of habit. That is clear and am sure you’d agree that if it’s something you do regularly that it has become a habit. The great news with all habits, is that just as they were learned they can be unlearned or broken.

Are We Our Habits

We often get defined by our habits, especially where family are concerned and it’s quite interesting in how this can box us in, because we start to define ourselves as this, that or the other. Or conversely we object and try to fight it, but either way it makes it difficult to then focus on making the change required to feel and be different around a particular habit that no longer works for us.

I know it’s New Year and we all know people who make new year resolutions to change behaviours, but when they fail it’s often due to a lack of strategy.

Just joining another dieting club (especially if this is familiar route for you) is simply not enough.

So get strategic and start to ask yourself some searching questions, such as what you can do differently this time around. Maybe instead of another of the usual suspects like joining the gym, you’ll decide to find a form of exercise you really love, because you’re far more likely to keep it going.

If you insist of using a dietary system then make sure you chose the healthy options most days and stop the habit of trying to cheat it, because bottom line, that doesn’t help where addressing the food cravings is concerned.
